Holding Court with Glinda

Glinda!July 4, 2009 - It was a bittersweet day on the set of L. Frank Baum's "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", as July 4th marked the last official day of shooting onset with Mariellen Kemp.  While there is still a bit of puppet work to be filmed in the next week or so, the first round of shooting is all but done.

The highlight of the weekend, however, was Glinda.  The stunningly beautiful Leah Copeland arrived from Roanoke on Friday evening and filmed her scene as the Good Witch of the South, on Saturday.

Glinda is imagined here as sort of a warrior-witch, a wise and powerful, almost Amazonian sorceress with her army of red-clad girls.

Glinda during filming

This idea came not only from the girl-army of the book, but also from the resemblance of the Denslow-drawn Glinda dress to that of a Greek goddess.
