Something Wicked This Way Comes...

July 3rd, 2011 - It finally happened. On Saturday, July 2nd, we put the Wicked Witch of the West in front of our cameras. This was only a dry run, a test fitting for the makeup and a chance to see how it moves on Marie's face and how it looks on camera.

Years ago when I wrote the script for our movie, I sketched out what I thought the Wicked Witch of the West should look like. Later, I cobbled together a piece of Photoshop art in order to more clearly pre-viz the Witch. Then there was the costume sketch and the hiring of Norman Rowe as our SFX Makeup Artist. Most recently, Marina Sokolova was brought in to create the costume, and yesterday we finally assembled all the pieces of the Witch, covering actress Marie Rizza in a coccoon of latex and wool. It's completely surreal to watch a character you've been so invested in, who has been created by the cooperation of four different people, come to life.

The best part is that it's worth all the work, the waiting, and the Kraft Mac n' Cheese I've been eating to offset the cost. Hell has a hostess. And she wears a greatcoat.

Zoiks, Scoob!
